I forgot to set my Dachshund Alarm Clock Today

Everyday Odie promptly gets me up at 5:00 AM. So promptly that I don’t use an alarm clock anymore. For some reason he lets us sleep in on the weekends. Perhaps he knows that we’re going to spend the day with him so he takes his time waking up.

Sonny Garrett, editor of The Baxter Bulletin, wrote an interesting article describing the same process he goes through everyday with his two dogs Vicious and Lola the Wonder Dachshund:

“I don’t need an alarm clock in the morning. They’re both up, licking my face and ready to start the day. And so the cycle begins again — lick, wrestle, eat, bury, sleep, lick, wrestle, eat, bury, sleep…”

Dachshunds are like that. They sleep under the bed covers and don’t come back up for air until the morning. After their first breath of fresh air, they’re full of kisses.

Your little guys would look so cute burrowing under the covers. I wonder if it is instinctive back to a time when they burrowed under ground.
